Award Winning Photography Is About

"Capturing The Moment"
Last Update August 20, 2007

The St. Louis Camera Club, founded in 1914, has a long history of excellence and diversity in its photography. Today the club is 300+ members strong.

The images on this page represent those photographic pinnacles which we all seek to achieve which truly represent "capturing the moment".

The diversity of images, subjects and styles represented on this page are but a mirror of our member's photographic interests.

We all have our own techniques for building our photographic skills, but there is nothing better than seeing great images and learning how people captured them.

Bull riding is one of the most dangerous sports on the planet. A bull rider faces frequent injuries, many serious, and some don't live past their last ride.

Adriano Moraes is a World Champion Bull Rider, the best of the best. He's tough, fearless and over-the-top aggressive in the arena. But he's also a deeply religious, humble, devoted family man.

This image brings all those qualities together in one moment as he walks in the spotlight with bowed head, holding the small hand of his young son who is trying to keep up with his daddy.

The image was taken as Adriano was introduced to the crowd prior to a Professional Bull Riders event at the Savvis Center in St. Louis.

The camera used was a Canon EOS A2E, with a Tamron 28-200 3.5 lens. Film was Fuji 800 print film. No flash was used."

Heavy wet snow fell early one morning near Lake Tahoe, landing very predictably on fir trees and pine cones. Gravity, however, was in a mischievious mood, and had fun with the snow on the narrow bicycle spokes. Curvy waves of undulating snow held tentatively to the bicycles, fearing each increasing degree of warmth. Not ten minutes later the ribbons of snow had melted into a memory, leaving behind only a common pack of bicycles in a pile of icy slush.

Nikon D100, protected from wet snow with an expensive plastic bag (Schnucks), tripod below knee level.

This shot is clear evidence of the power of love....I guess.

I captured this image of my then-future son-in-law, who was more than a little uncertain about his fate, but determined to show off for his future bride. It was taken at Hog's Back Park in Ottawa, Canada in June of 2001.

I took the photo with my intrepid Olympus C-2100, which sports a 49mm lens, and 10x optical zoom. f2.8, 1/60 sec.
