This month's field trip, with fall and autumn colors coming on, is to the area within the the St. Louis Metropolitan area that has the best and most consistent fall coloration.

It is located on a west facing hill in Fenton. With reflections of sugar maple, oak and hickory in the Meramec River, it can make for outstanding fall images.

The location is at the southeast corner of the intersection of I-44 and the Meramec River. Exit at the soccer park in Fenton and return eastward to the river. Travel south less than 1/4 mile. There are pullouts to park along the river.

Traffic can be heavy in this area at times, so caution is advised when pulling in and out of the pullouts.

There is also a steep drop into the river bed. This can be very treacherous and it is advised to stay up on the upper bank of the river.

In good years this site can be spectacular, and even in "off" years, it is the best fall color show in town.

Enjoy it and take lots of spectacular pictures.
