Many times a location is best when you can make return trips. Different light, atmospheric and natural conditions are constantly changing, where a good image can become a great one - the image to proudly hang on your wall. Shaw Nature Reserve (formerly Shaw Arboretum) can fill this nicely for those who live in the St. Louis region. |

Although it is known to many a photographer, I chose this place to highlight the need to return again and again to study and photograph the light and natural subjects. For a nature lover, you can discover new images on nearly every inch of the site. From glade to prairie to wetland, to forest and to a native plant garden. The habitats are varied enough that throughout the year one never tires of what they see. It is located in Gray Summit, Missouri at the southwest quadrant of the intersection of I-44 and Missouri Highway 100 (Exit 253). Enter through gate and stop at the welcome center. The welcome center has a lot of information available about the preserve. This is a FEE area. If you are a member of Missouri Botanical Garden your entrance fee is waived. As always, biting insects, too much sun and dehydration can ruin a very enjoyable trip. Take what you need for comfort and safety. |
