St Louis Camera Club Presents:
Designing Portraits with Emily Moore

Attendees must register by March 29, 2024. See below

Emily Moore is a self-taught photographer specializing in fashion and fine art studio portraiture. Emily’s approach focuses on colorful, story-telling images that represent a theme or mood, enhanced by careful attention to detail. She gleans her inspiration from an eclectic mix of artists and eras, including renaissance and baroque painters as well as historical and modern fashion. In her everyday life, Emily is a statistician with a PhD in political science from Washington University in St. Louis and an avid classical fencer. She lives in St. Louis with her husband Jared, her dog Odin, her cats Augustus and Socrates, and her burgeoning collection of hats.

Emily’s work has won many awards and has been exhibited in a variety of venues including the International Photography Hall of Fame, 31art Gallery, Art Saint Louis, and the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and on popular photography websites such as FStoppers and Photography Life.

Below is one of her most stunning images, entitled “The Elephant in the Room”, which landed her in the top 10 entries (out of over 1,000) in the first International Hall of Fame competition in 2022. It also placed in the top 20 entries in the Creative Portrait Category of the Portrait Masters Awards January 2022 and won an Award of Merit at Art Saint Louis. This image demonstrates her careful and intentional design of the shot, the infusion of narrative, and her masterful use of color.

The St Louis Camera Club presents a workshop with Emily on Saturday April 6th, 10 AM - 2 PM at the Ethical Society of St Louis (9001 Clayton Rd, St. Louis, MO 63117). She will cover her creative process and engage the audience in exercises, helping participants create and refine concepts of their own. There will be a one-hour lunch break, and a box lunch will be provided. Then, Emily will discuss how to approach color choices in post production that tie the final image together. Though Emily’s primary focus is portrait and fashion photography, the concepts can be applied to other types of crafted images as well. Participants are asked to register for the workshop

This workshop is made possible by a grant to the St Louis Camera Club from the Regional Arts Commission.
